ORICO: Ultra fast 40Gbps M.2 Smart SSD Enclosure Review
I received mine this past weekend on May 5, 2025 but just tested out.
I have it hooked up to my M1 iMac using thunderbolt and using a 4tb Western Digital Black NVME drive
A few notes and review
– nice packaging
– there are instructions UNDER the packaging holding the device
– the little plug piece works fine, just read the instructions on how to insert it. it comes with an extra one in case you lose it which is nice
– data transfer seemed to go comparable to my other enclosure.. it was about 10MB/s faster, but I can’t say for sure that was because of the case
– not sure how effective the cooling is
My big thing for this was the cooling.. how well would the enclosure work with adding a fan?
Using my flir, I did see the fan working, expelling some hot air.. however I can’t say with certain how effective it is. I feel like it would be more effective using a push/pull fan system with a fan on both ends, instead of just a pull fan at the end.
My first test was to see how my current enclosure works. I did a baseline test without the cover, plugged in but not enabled on the computer.

98.5 at idle
I then let it set for about an hour with the case and the fan running, plugged in but not enabled

89.7 with case off, fan running
I removed the case and immediately tested the drive

104 with case off, fan running
Then I did a real world active transfer test. I copied a 61,89GB folder with 503 RAW files and 503 XMP files. I tested the temp of the case and the drive as soon as the files finished sending.
